Do you know a music-loving high school senior? Are you one yourself? If so, here’s a fun project the student can work on while homebound due to coronavirus-related school closings.
The Mountain Fever Music Group announced on Monday, March 16 that is accepting applications for its 3rd annual Higher Education Scholarship — a $1,000 award for a promising future college student for his or her outstanding merit, citizenship and love of music.
Mountain Fever is a Willis, Virginia-based record label founded in 2006 by Floyd County native Mark Hodges. Specializing in bluegrass music, the label is home to an impressive roster of artists, including Spartanburg’s own Backline, and is also notable for releasing the late Mac Wiseman’s 2017 album, “I Sang the Song,” which was co-produced by Thomm Jutz and former Spartanburg resident Peter Cooper and featured a star-studded guest lineup that included John Prine, Jim Lauderdale and Alison Krauss.
High school seniors interested in applying for the scholarship are asked to write a short essay (must be 200-400 words) explaining “How Music Has Impacted My Life.” Applications are accepted until April 15 and a recipient will be chosen by May 1.
