The Spartanburg Philharmonic will present “The Snowman and Other Holiday Favorites” this weekend at the Chapman Cultural Center, 200 E. St. John St., Spartanburg. The family-friendly, one-hour concert will be presented at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15.
Each show will feature such holiday favorites as “Jingle Bells,” “O Christmas Tree” and “Sugar Plum Fairy” from The Nutcracker Suite along with a screening of the classic animated short film, “The Snowman,” with the original soundtrack performed live by the Philharmonic’s chamber orchestra under the direction of music director and conductor Stefan Sanders.
In 1982, Raymond Briggs’ picture book, “The Snowman,” was adapted as a 26-minute animated film by TVC, at the time the UK’s longest established animation studio. The score, written and composed by Howard Blake, features the iconic song “Walking in the Air,” which will be performed by soprano Charlotte Ward. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for youth and can be purchased here. For more information, call 864-542-2787 or visit www.spartanburgphilharmonic.org.
