Key notes: Fred & Dinah Gretsch to appear at Wofford; Upstate Brass Project to play Converse; GSO to present Mozart chamber concert

Fred and Dinah Gretsch of Gretsch Musical Instruments, Inc., will appear in a moderated question and answer session in the Leonard Auditorium at Wofford College in Spartanburg on Thursday, Nov. 14.

An Evening with Fred and Dinah Gretsch will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 in the Leonard Auditorium at Wofford College, 429 N. Church St., Spartanburg. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Fred and Dinah are, respectively, the president and CFO/COO of Gretsch Musical Instruments, Inc., and the couple will share their insights and wisdom gathered over a collective 94-year period of experience in the musical instruments industry during a moderated question and answer session. The Upstate Brass Project will present a concert of symphonic brass music at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Lawson Academy of the Arts at College College, 580 E. Main St., Spartanburg. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. Composed of many of the leading brass and percussion players in the area, The Upstate Brass Project will perform works by such famed composers as John Williams, Gustav Holst, Malcolm Arnold and more. As part of its 2019-2020 Chamber Orchestra Series, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra will present “The Magnificent Mozart” this weekend in the Gunter Theatre at the Peace Center, 300 S. Main St., Greenville. Concerts are at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17. Led by conductor Edvard Tchivzel and featuring GSO principal clarinetist Anthony Marotta, selections will include Mozart’s Overture to “The Impresario,” Mozart’s Concerto for Clarinet and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40. The audience will also be challenged to try to guess the identity of the “mystery piece” to be played as an encore.
