Former President Barack Obama posted to social media on Monday, Dec. 30 a list titled “Favorite Music of 2019,” and a Spartanburg native was among the artists represented.
Nashville-based singer-songwriter Adia Victoria, who was born in the Hub City and, according to Wikipedia, attended Landrum Junior High School in Campobello, made the list with her song “Different Kind of Love.”
Known for her “gothic blues” musical style, Victoria released “Different Kind of Love” as a single in January, and the song was part of her acclaimed album, “Silences,” which was issued a month later on the Atlantic Records label and also includes a song titled “Pacolet Road.”
Obama’s list was prefaced with a note that read, “From hip-hop to country to The Boss, here are my songs of the year. If you’re looking for something to keep you company on a long drive or help you turn up a workout, I hope there’s a track or two in here that does the trick.”
Victoria burst onto the national scene with her 2014 single, “Stuck in the South,” and Rolling Stone magazine once described her as sounding like “PJ Harvey covering Loretta Lynn at a haunted debutante ball.”
Sharing Obama’s post to her own Facebook page, Victoria simply stated, “Thanks, Obama. ❤️❤️❤️”
